Lady
June 15, 1997 — Lady arrives:
She came to the Gang as a hard-luck story. She’d been in GAL’s kennel for months. Shy as any dog they’d ever seen, only 2 1/2 years old, 45 lbs, fawn brindle. She also had Valley Fever. She was scared of people, scared of dogs and so labeled a tough adoption prospect. Finding someone to pay the high cost of meds for Valley Fever, and deal with a dog that wouldn’t even come near you, was asking a lot of any adopter. They decided to put her down, but no one could get her out of her crate, she was so scared. And she was awfully cute, so whenever one of the guys would try, he didn’t have the heart to grab her and yank her out of the crate for her last trip to the vet.
We said, “let us try”. We found someone to pay for her meds for two months, and we hoped we’d be able to help with her shyness during that time. Well she’s been here for 5 hours and she is Little Miss Curious.
Snooped into everything, didn’t want the crate I’d set up specifically for her, played with the stuffed animals strewn over the floor and ran her heart out over my 2 1/2 acres. Our prognosis – This girl is going to be just fine!!
August 15, 1997 — Lady update:
This shy, sick little girl is coming into her own. She now plays with stuffed animals, tossing them high, catching them and racing around the yard. She is learning to tolerate a leash, though a harness is needed. She loves to go in the car and do errands. She’s seen the other dogs on the bed, and when no one is looking she sneaks on it too.
She loves to go for walks around the yard, and will prance right next to me and allow pets and love hugs. She glides around the yard and house like a waif, but one who now has joy in her heart, and a chance for survival.
September 30, 1997 — Lady Update:
I had to leave suddenly to Colorado for surgery on Slim. The Brewers had recently adopted Foster, and when they were here, Lady had followed their Great Dane, Schuylkill around like he was the MAN. They agreed to watch Lady for me while I’m gone, and so she is spending time with Foster (Greyhound), Schuykill (Great Dane), Carla and Chris in Las Vegas. As the photographs show, she is having a GREYT time!!
When I returned, Carla and Chris decided that Lady wasn’t leaving. And she’s been frolicking there ever since. Happy ending for a happy girl!
June 22, 2004
Carla and Chris graciously allowed Lady to visit with me to give me love as I was sad with Winslow and Regis’ passings the past few months, and worn out from the Gathering. We were out for our morning run, and she was running circles on the golf course among the sprinklers when she slipped and broke her leg. She left us during surgery. We loved her truly, madly and deeply.
